Monamore Music

Monamore Music was formed in 1996 by Mairi and her husband Steve Evans to copyright the songs from the album 'This Feeling Inside'

It really started one night when Mairi was collating material for a new album in the spring of 1993 and realised she was short on English songs. Mairi asked Steve if he had any ideas and together they sat down and wrote 'Far From Home'. In the next few months, four other songs were written ' Precious Days', 'Follow the Light', 'Sit at my Table' and 'This Feeling Inside'.

These songs were specially written for the album and with more than a little apprehension they were included.

Mairi says in Rock'n'Reel - "We would be taking about issues and then I would go away to the mainland for work reasons and when I got home he would have these songs written that really surprised me. He was able to say what I really felt"

Nevertheless, in the following months the songs received much acclaim and were featured on local and foreign radio. Radio Scotland and notably Breakfast Radio 2. Some have also been performed on Television.

Mairi's next album due for release in the spring next year (2000) will include a few more songs from the partnership. The final touches are being made now.

The company name Monamore (derived from the Gaelic name 'Monadh mor' which translates as the big moorland). Music is taken from the stream which runs through the glen at the bottom of the hill in Lamlash.

"The added bonus is that in her partner, Steve Evans, she has found the perfect song-writing foil and a short listen to 'Follow the Light' or the ode to beauty and joy of parenthood 'Precious Days' will prove that this one partnership will run and run and run. Glorious"
